Palaeontology

Palaeontological resources are considered heritage sites, and are thus protected under the same legislation as archaeological and historic period sites in Alberta. Recently, a separate palaeontology division was created within FMA in response to growing requests for services. The division has two senior palaeontologists, trained at the doctorate and masters’ levels, who are familiar with provincial, territorial and federal regulatory requirements.

The Palaeontology Division specializes in impact assessments that provide for the protection of palaeontological resources while facilitating approval for industrial projects. We are committed to protecting and preserving palaeontological resources by working with clients to determine routing options and mitigation measures to avoid and minimize impacts to palaeontological resources.

FMA is in the forefront of meeting new palaeontological requirements for oil sands mines, coal mines and other large-scale projects. We provide a range of service lines to meet the palaeontological requirements of any project including:
