Traditional Knowledge and Land Use – Senior Lead
Overview
Stantec provides professional consulting services in planning, engineering, architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, surveying, environmental sciences, project management, and project economics for infrastructure and facilities projects. We support public and private sector clients in a diverse range of markets, at every stage, from initial concept and financial feasibility to project completion and beyond. Our Culture and Heritage Resources group specializes in archaeology, palaeontology, and Aboriginal traditional knowledge and land use studies within western and northern Canada. We have provided cultural resources planning, management, assessment and mitigation services to private sector resource developers, all levels of government, non-governmental groups and Aboriginal communities. We practice respectful collection and interpretation of information in consultation with Aboriginal groups.

Responsibilities
Stantec’s Culture and Heritage Resources group is seeking a Senior – Traditional Knowledge and Land Use Study Lead for their Community and Aboriginal Affairs Division. This position involves providing team leadership and technical direction of work related to Traditional Knowledge and Land Use Studies.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Directing the work of project teams
- Senior review and report writing
- Project management which includes the creation and management of budgets and schedules
- Undertaking and coordinating proposal writing activities
- Designing robust study programs which are defensible in judicial or quasi-judicial processes
- Defending studies and study plans as required to clients and regulators
- Liaising with project managers and other departments as well as internal and external clients to ensure the delivery of objectives
- Occasional travel throughout Western and Northern Canada including remote locations
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following:
- Masters degree in a relevant discipline
- Five years relevant consulting (or equivalent) experience
- Experience in the following:
- Team leadership
- Managing multiple project activities
- Presenting to a variety of audiences including aboriginal and industry clients, regulatory authorities and technical teams
- And one of the following:
- Traditional Knowledge and Land Use studies
- Environmental impact assessments
- Work in aboriginal communities
- Background in anthropology, sociology, geography, archaeology and/or environmental sciences
- Knowledge of Aboriginal cultural, historical and political context in Canada
We will also consider candidates for a Traditional Knowledge and Land Use Study Project Lead position. The successful candidate will have a relevant undergraduate or graduate degree, experience in community-based research, experience with environmental impact assessments and/or experience working with Aboriginal communities.
